New hats on my website! And a true story I’ve never shared ➡️ The year was 1995. I got an A on my final paper in Political Science. I remember trying to decide what my subject would be. My college professor was a young woman who appreciated me as a young mom. She said to me, “How about if you choose something no one else has + research the history of gays in the military?” So I did. And what I found was shocking. I remember learning about the first general who had to hide his sexuality out of fear. And yet he served our country + saved so many people. I remember typing that paper on my dads old IBM computer in his downstairs office. I remember thinking how awful it would be if I had to hide parts of myself in life.

I still have my paper somewhere. I kept it all of these years because I was really proud of the work I did on it. Someday I’ll find it + I’ll come back to share my words.

The irony or foreshadowing of our life sometimes, right? Not much else I want to say (you know my story .. + if you don’t, read my book) except please, BE YOU. It pains me when I see people not living their truth. When we don’t live our truth, we aren’t allowing ourself {or others} to be in relationship with our highest self. So love yourself so deeply as your whole. Be truthful + vulnerable + honest with yourself. Be proud of who you are! Remember to treat others as you wish to be treated. And just as important: remember to treat yourself how you wish others to treat you, too. Show up in this world as you were created. And always be kind with your beautiful heart. Because your heart {and kindness} matters.

We are all HUMAN. And love wins. Always.

It’s hard to make sense of what seems nonsensical in the moment. Just like it’s hard to understand or comprehend how life could ever move forward when you’re feeling alone on an island, lost + confused. Oh Hon, I SO get it!

I was on the phone earlier today with my graphic designer. We were talking business + life. She said, “I think about how far you’ve come. From our first meeting at your small round kitchen table, you were going through divorce + starting your business, to where you are today. Guiding others on their healing journey. A book. Speaking. Your personal life. It must be something to look back and see how life was happening for you all along.”

Her words stayed with me.

Yes, it IS something. In fact, I have moments when I have to remind myself to stop + take it all in. At times it seems surreal.

Here’s what I want to remind all of you. And please listen carefully. ⬇️

Someday .. SOMEDAY .. you will look back at what is happening, and it will make sense in your heart + mind. The best thing you can do in this moment is simply trust + believe that the Universe / God is working in your favor. Believe that you have internal strength + knowledge to make powerful healthy choices + move forward. Do what you can .. + surrender the remainder to a higher power. Take your body into nature + ground yourself with the earth. Breathe. And know that you, my love, will someday look back on what is happening + it will all begin to make perfect + magical sense .. unfolding for your highest good.

Trust.
Trust.
Trust.

Share your thoughts in the comments. I love hearing from you!

You’ve got this. I believe in you / us .. always,

A comment under a picture I posted read, “‘Teach’ in nature. Girl, you were born for this!” 😭 Yes, I love my work! And yes, I do believe that I was born for this. 💕

For those who don’t know, I graduated from UW-Madison in 1995 with a BS-Art Education. I LOVED teaching art to elementary school students! My favorite was when they’d come to me with their piece of work + say, “I need to start over. Can I have a new piece of paper?” I’d never let them. Instead, I’d say that anything is workable. You take what you “think” are mistakes and create a piece of art from that space. My other favorite is when they’d come to me with their finished work + be grateful they never started over.

Funny how life comes full circle. Now I’m teaching + guiding adults to create their life as an ever-evolving + beautiful piece of art. We all have mistakes + moments + experiences that perhaps we wish we hadn’t had to go through. Yet it’s in the deepest muck of life that we find our light + shine even brighter in this world. And then, one day we surface + look back on where we came from .. honoring our courage to continue on while realizing there really is no starting over in life. More so, it’s about continuing the creation of what’s been handed for us.

My friends, honor your moments. Every one of them. And when you are wanting to throw in the towel + start over, remember to keep taking steps. Don’t resist! Instead, lean into your story, your heart, soul + mind .. and remember that you are the artist of your own life.

Permission granted to create. Over + over again.

I see you.
